Vineland
’s Egg
Industry
Featuring
Herb Wenger & Charlie Williams
Charlie Williams
Herb Wegner
grew up in the egg business in
Vineland
– the one time egg capital of the world.
Inspired by the role the egg industry played in
Vineland
from 1870 to 1970, Herb has portrayed Herbert O. Wegner, President of the
Vineland Egg Auction for the last five years.
“I get to relive the reality of the egg industry that I grew up in and
discuss those days with others who experienced it.”
Wegner crowds a volume of vintage poultry equipment into his exhibition
tent and waits for visitors to remark about this or that artifact they may
remember from a bygone day when
Vineland
was home to thousands of men and women who earned their living from eggs and
poultry.
Wegner’s collection of egg industry memorabilia tends to be a highlight
at many community affairs throughout
Southern New Jersey
. When he can’t make it to a
Founder’s Day event, Friends’ member Charlie Williams is happy to step in
and share the wealth of information documenting the booming days of this
important
Vineland
industry history.
